March 2nd-6th

This week, we will continue to read Refugee and work on assigned activities. We will cover pages 146-196. Please note the following: 

1. Weeks 1-3 Vocabulary are OVERDUE and should be handed in ASAP! 

2. Week 1-3 comprehension quiz: Wednesday

February 24th to 28th

This week, we will continue our novel study, Refugee. We are reading pages 93-146 and will be completing activities on Tone and Mood and new vocabulary terms. 

We will also continue to work on our Daily Bellringers and grammar review (due March 27th).

February 18th to 21st

This week, we will continue working on our novel study, Refugee. You will need to read pages 56-92 by Friday and keep up with the assigned tasks on your hyperdoc. Vocabulary #1 is due for marks this week. 

Please remember to make copies of all assigned tasks and save in your Refugee folder in your drive.

February 10th-14th

Throughout the week, we will be working on our novel study, Refugee. We will be completing a variety of tasks within the week one slides and will be reading pages 1-55. See Google Classroom for all resources needed.

February 3rd-7th

This week, we will be presenting our Song Analysis projects and starting our new Novel Study, Refugee. We will also receive our new Bellringer, which will be due February 28th. 

During our library blocks for the next two months, we will be working on completing grammar review activities. The booklet you receive will be due March 27th.

January 27th-30th

This week, we will be working on competing our Song Analysis Project. Your in class time will be spent following the analysis structure and answering all of the questions through research. Please be sure to keep up with work at home if needed.

We are continuing to work on our Symbolism unit. We finished watching Avatar and are working on writing a strong paragraph to explain three symbols within the film and their meaning. 

We also discussed Symbolism in song and have started a research project on a song of our choice. Please check Google Classroom for all documents required, including an exemplar analysis for the song, "Wheat Kings." 

Please have you song choice solidified for Monday!

January 13th-17th

Brrr... it's a cold one! Be sure to bundle up all week! 

This week, we will continue working with Symbolism in film and literature. We will be watching Avatar and tracking different symbols we come across and what they mean. We will be completing a written assignment with the symbolism data collected after we watch the film.

January 6th-10th

In Language Arts this week, we will be looking at Symbolism in literature and film. We will complete a series of activities to help us understand the impact of Symbolism in stories and film. 

We will be reading, The Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allan Poe. 

January Bellringers will be handed out today and will be due January 30th. 

December 16th-December 20th

This week, we will finish writing our short stories. They are due tomorrow and will be graded during Christmas Break. On Wednesday, we will start some Christmas themed activities, including watching the 1938 version of A Christmas Carol and completing some comprehension questions.

December 9th-13th

This week, we will continue to write our short stories. We will complete a rough draft, do some peer editing, and then have our final drafts submitted by next Monday. Please turn in on Classroom when done. 

Tomorrow, we will be attending A Christmas Carol in Edmonton. It will be a great presentation of a Christmas Classic. Please dress nicely and bring a bagged lunch. 

December 2nd- 6th

This week, we will begin writing short stories. There are two planning documents on Google Classroom you will need to complete to build your main character(s) and the plot. These are both due Friday, December 6th. We will also be completing a dialogue review activity to help us understand how to insert dialogue into our stories. 

Next week, we will be peer editing and completing the final drafts of our short stories. 

November 25th-29th

This week, we will continue working on our 6+1 Traits of writing activities. Completing these will help us prepare to write our own short stories.

Please remember that you are choosing ONE completed analysis to turn in to be graded. 

8MI - we wrote our Short Story Assessment on Wednesday and your marks will be on Powerschool soon. We also started looking at the 6+1 Traits of Writing to prepare us for writing our upcoming short stories. 

8BI - you will write your Short Story Assessment on Monday. Please review Elements of a short story and the four stories read to prepare.

November 4th to November 8th

All Outsiders projects and questions should now be turned in to be graded! 

This week, we will be working on reviewing elements of a short story and reading 4 examples to help us understand each element. You will be completing a short story analysis with each story and will turn in your BEST one to be graded at the end of our unit. We will read The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe this week. 

October 28th-November 2nd

This week, has us watching The Outsiders film. We will be comparing the novel to the movie and discussing the similarities and differences. We will continue to work on the chapter questions and TIC TAC TOE project, which are both due on Friday. 

Later in the week, we will work on reviewing elements of a short story and read one of Edgar Allan Poe's most famous short stories.
