January 6th-10th

Happy New Year! 
Welcome back :) 

In Language Arts this week, we will be looking at Symbolism in literature and film. We will complete a series of activities to help us understand the impact of Symbolism in stories and film. 

We will be reading, The Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allan Poe. 

January Bellringers will be handed out today and will be due January 30th.

December 16th-December 20th

This week, we will finish writing our short stories. They are due tomorrow and will be graded during Christmas Break. On Wednesday, we will start some Christmas themed activities, including watching the 1938 version of A Christmas Carol and completing some comprehension questions.

December 9th-13th

This week, we will continue to write our short stories. We will complete a rough draft, do some peer editing, and then have our final drafts submitted by next Monday. Please turn in on Classroom when done. 

Tomorrow, we will be attending A Christmas Carol in Edmonton. It will be a great presentation of a Christmas Classic. Please dress nicely and bring a bagged lunch.

December 2nd- 6th

This week, we will begin writing short stories. There are two planning documents on Google Classroom you will need to complete to build your main character(s) and the plot. These are both due Friday, December 6th. We will also be completing a dialogue review activity to help us understand how to insert dialogue into our stories. 

Next week, we will be peer editing and completing the final drafts of our short stories.

November 18th-22nd

This week, we finished up reading our short stories. The four we read were: 

The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe
The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant
The Money's Paw by W.W. Jacobs 
Zoo 2000 by Richard Curtis

Please remember that you are choosing ONE completed analysis to turn in to be graded. 

8MI - we wrote our Short Story Assessment on Wednesday and your marks will be on Powerschool soon. We also started looking at the 6+1 Traits of Writing to prepare us for writing our upcoming short stories. 

8BI - you will write your Short Story Assessment on Monday. Please review Elements of a short story and the four stories read to prepare.

November 4th to November 8th

All Outsiders projects and questions should now be turned in to be graded! 

This week, we will be working on reviewing elements of a short story and reading 4 examples to help us understand each element. You will be completing a short story analysis with each story and will turn in your BEST one to be graded at the end of our unit. We will read The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe this week.
