January 20-24th

We are continuing to work on our Symbolism unit. We finished watching Avatar and are working on writing a strong paragraph to explain three symbols within the film and their meaning. 

We also discussed Symbolism in song and have started a research project on a song of our choice. Please check Google Classroom for all documents required, including an exemplar analysis for the song, "Wheat Kings."

This week, we will continue working with Symbolism in film and literature. We will be watching Avatar and tracking different symbols we come across and what they mean. We will be completing a written assignment with the symbolism data collected after we watch the film.

January 6th-10th

Happy New Year! 
Welcome back :) 

In Language Arts this week, we will be looking at Symbolism in literature and film. We will complete a series of activities to help us understand the impact of Symbolism in stories and film. 

We will be reading, The Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allan Poe. 

January Bellringers will be handed out today and will be due January 30th.

December 16th-December 20th

This week, we will finish writing our short stories. They are due tomorrow and will be graded during Christmas Break. On Wednesday, we will start some Christmas themed activities, including watching the 1938 version of A Christmas Carol and completing some comprehension questions.

December 9th-13th

This week, we will continue to write our short stories. We will complete a rough draft, do some peer editing, and then have our final drafts submitted by next Monday. Please turn in on Classroom when done. 

Tomorrow, we will be attending A Christmas Carol in Edmonton. It will be a great presentation of a Christmas Classic. Please dress nicely and bring a bagged lunch.

December 2nd- 6th

This week, we will begin writing short stories. There are two planning documents on Google Classroom you will need to complete to build your main character(s) and the plot. These are both due Friday, December 6th. We will also be completing a dialogue review activity to help us understand how to insert dialogue into our stories. 

Next week, we will be peer editing and completing the final drafts of our short stories.
