September 30th - October 4th

We are continuing our novel study, The Outsiders. We will read chapters 3, 4 and 5 this week and will complete the assigned questions. I will introduce the free choice project idea later in the week, which will be due at the end of the novel. 

Please be sure to keep up with reading the assigned chapters and the corresponding questions. 

HLAT this week!

Grade 8s! We had a great time writing some strong paragraphs last week. This week, we are using our writing skills to complete the HLAT (Highest Level of Achievement) writing assessment. This assessment will give me an idea as to each students' writing level and help me plan instruction for the year. 

8BI - writes today! 

8MI- writes Wednesday! 

Later in the week, we will be working with the short story, On the Sidewalk Bleeding by Evan Hunter and discussing the theme of identity. This will help us prepare for our first novel study, The Outsiders, which we will start next week.

Paragraph Writing!

Over the past few days, we have been working on writing a strong paragraph. We planned out a strong topic sentence, good supporting details, and a vibrant concluding sentence. We spent some time peer editing our work to see how to improve our writing.

Good copies are due (submit through Google Classroom) tomorrow! 

Welcome to ELA 8!

Welcome students of 8BI and 8MI! I am so happy to be teaching you English Language Arts This year. I am looking forwards to a year filled with fun and adventure as we explore Language Arts in a variety of ways, including a lot of self-guided learning. 

This Blog will be updated weekly, on Mondays, to showcase what we are doing for the week. Other items that will be posted here include assignment due dates, reading suggestions, and information on upcoming assessments. 

Be sure to check the Blog each Monday to be filled in! It's even more important to check it when you are absent from school to see what you may have missed.
